AI Policy
The International Journal of Modern Advances in Engineering Research (IJMAER) recognizes the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative AI tools in research, writing, and data analysis. While such technologies can assist researchers, IJMAER is committed to ensuring transparency, accountability, originality, and ethical integrity in scholarly publishing. This policy outlines the acceptable and unacceptable uses of AI tools in manuscript preparation, submission, peer review, and editorial decision-making.
Scope of the Policy
This policy applies to:
- Authors
- Reviewers
- Editors
- Editorial Staff
It covers the use of AI tools such as (but not limited to):
- Generative text tools
- Code-generation tools
- Image and data generation tools
- Language-editing and grammar-checking tools
Acceptable Use of AI by Authors
Authors may use AI tools only as assistive technologies, such as:
- Language polishing, grammar correction, and readability improvement
- Formatting assistance
- Code debugging or syntax checking
- Summarization of author-owned content
- Data analysis support, provided results are verified by authors
All intellectual responsibility remains entirely with the authors.
Mandatory Disclosure Requirement
Authors must clearly disclose the use of AI or Generative AI tools in their manuscript.
- Disclosure should be included in the Acknowledgments or a separate AI Usage Statement
- The disclosure must specify:
- The name of the AI tool
- The purpose for which it was used
Example Disclosure Statement
“The authors used an AI-based language tool to improve grammar and clarity. The authors reviewed and take full responsibility for the content.”
Failure to disclose AI usage may be treated as an ethical violation.
Unacceptable Use of AI by Authors
The following uses of AI are strictly prohibited:
- Listing AI tools as authors or co-authors
- Using AI to generate entire manuscripts or substantial scientific content without human intellectual contribution
- Fabrication or manipulation of data, images, graphs, or results using AI
- Generating references, citations, or bibliographic entries that do not exist
- Using AI to conceal plagiarism or bypass plagiarism detection
- Submitting AI-generated content without verification
AI tools cannot be held accountable and therefore cannot meet authorship criteria.
AI and Data Integrity
- Authors must ensure that all data, results, figures, and interpretations are accurate and verifiable
- AI-generated images or data must be clearly labeled and justified
- Any AI-assisted simulation or model must be reproducible and properly described
Use of AI by Reviewers
Reviewers must:
- Maintain strict confidentiality of manuscripts
- Not upload manuscripts or parts of manuscripts into public or third-party AI tools
- Use AI tools only for personal assistance (e.g., language clarity) without sharing manuscript content
Any breach of confidentiality will be considered serious misconduct.
Use of AI by Editors
Editors may use AI tools only for:
- Administrative support
- Plagiarism screening assistance
- Workflow efficiency
Editors must not rely on AI tools for:
- Making final acceptance or rejection decisions
- Replacing human peer review
- Evaluating scientific validity without expert judgment
AI-Generated Content and Plagiarism
- AI-generated text may trigger similarity detection tools
- Manuscripts containing undisclosed or excessive AI-generated content may be rejected
- IJMAER treats undisclosed AI misuse as a form of publication malpractice
Handling AI-Related Ethical Violations
If unethical AI use is suspected:
- Manuscript is put on hold
- Authors are asked for clarification and disclosure
- Editorial investigation is conducted
- Possible actions include:
- Revision request
- Rejection
- Retraction (post-publication)
- Author submission ban in severe cases
Responsibility and Accountability
- Authors bear full responsibility for the originality, accuracy, and ethical integrity of their work
- AI tools cannot be cited as authors, reviewers, or responsible entities
Policy Updates
IJMAER reserves the right to update this AI Policy as technologies evolve and international publishing standards change. Authors are expected to comply with the most recent version at the time of submission.
